Savings & Loans and ACCU Merger – A Notice for Members
17 August 2009
Australian Services Union
Savings & Loans Credit Union
Australian Central Credit Union
What's the common theme?
The proposed merger between Australian Central and Savings & Loans understandably might make some of you feel like your job security is at risk. Such major change can gives rise to a range of questions and 'what if's'.
When different entities merge the risk of redundancies becomes very real. The degree of change to employees' working lives can increase rapidly and all the ramifications of a merger can take years before they are fully understood.
In a time of uncertainty and enormous change who can you rely on to support you all the way? Your ASU will be there right alongside you ensuring full and thorough consultation takes place with all staff, your ASU Workplace Representatives and ASU officials.
Before the merger can proceed members of both Savings & Loans and Australia Central must vote and agree to the merger. As we are all member based organisations we can all recognise that if we are to be successful then we rely on each other working together and supporting each other for the benefit of all of our members. Ultimately as member based organisations we recognise that members will decide the direction we take and the challenges we face. That is why your ASU will be conducting meetings in the near future so ASU members can have their say.
Your Union to meet with Management
Your ASU Branch Secretary Katrine Hildyard will meet Management from both credit unions and discuss the proposed merger and its implications for staff and their wages and conditions. Your ASU is committed to providing you with updated information as it comes to hand.
Your ASU Workplace Reps from both credit unions will also meet ASAP to discuss the issues surrounding the proposed merger and report back to you.
Your ASU Organisers Charles Wright and Matt Karger will be conducting visits to all branches and departments of both credit unions and are more than happy to discuss with you your concerns and issues. For more information please contact Matt at mkarger@asu-sant.asn.au or Charles at cwright@asu-sant.asn.au or call 8363 1322.
Please check back here to the website for updates.
By working together we can ensure that we all have access to relevant information and position ourselves to ensure that hard fought conditions are retained and that any job losses are minimal.
