Darwin City Council ASU members secure pay rise

After much effort by your ASU Representatives, ASU Organiser Lucio Matarazzo and ASU office, you and other staff have accepted in principle your new 3 year collective agreement which will deliver no less than a $105 a week pay rise over the next two years to all full time employees.
The in principle agreement provides ASU members employed at Council with conditions including the following:
- A 4% pay rise or $35 [full time] a week rise, which ever is the greater, backdated and paid from 1 September 2008.
- A further 4% pay rise or $35 [full time] a week rise, which ever is the greater, from 1 September 2009.
- A further 4% pay rise or $35 [full time] a week rise, which ever is the greater, from 1 September 2010.
- Continuation of a 36.25 hour week with all hours worked more than 7.25 hours a day and/or 36.25 hours a week paid at overtime rates.
- Protection of paid overtime, weekend and out of ordinary hours of work penalty rates.
- 14 weeks paid maternity leave and 4 weeks paid paternity leave.
- Continuation of 6 weeks annual leave per annum.
- Automatic pro rata long service entitlements after 7 years service.
- Continuation of 3 weeks sick leave per annum.
- Continuation of District Allowance of $2,611 per annum for full time employees with dependents and
- $1498 per annum for full time employees without dependents.
- Salary packaging arrangements for superannuation which has income tax savings benefits.
- Continuation of the 25 % loading for casual employees.
- Allowing the Australian Industrial Relations Commission to conciliate and arbitrate on disputes in relation to all matters in your agreement and Award to resolution.
- A job security commitment.
- A commitment to consult with staff and their Union prior to making final decisions on matters affecting ASU members.
- Redundancy entitlements if and when applicable of no less than 2 weeks for each year of service (capped at 40 weeks) and no less than 6 weeks paid mandatory notice.
- Up to five (5) paid hours a week approved study leave and other support which may include financial assistance with HECS and course fees.
- Higher duties pay for all higher duties hours worked.
- Junior Rates of pay abolished.
- Job Sharing of positions may apply if employees request it.
- ASU Workplace Representatives rights.
- Bereavement, Personal, Emergency Services and Jury Service leave.
- Uniforms and Protective Clothing conferred.
- Paid Leave for Australian Services Union consultation meetings.
our ASU will now assist Darwin City Council in drafting the final version of your agreement. You will have the opportunity over fourteen (14) days to read and consider your agreement prior to voting on it.
