Community Services Update - Community Services Industry Plan31 August 2005If you don’t plan to succeed, you may very well be planning to fail. In the current industrial climate it is imperative that strategies to improve wages and conditions and ensure the work community services workers undertake is valued are developed and undertaken across the sector in a co-ordinated and focused way. A long-term plan for the entire sector is being developed and will be discussed at the meeting of Community Services activists on 5 September. This plan will set the direction for long-term Union work in the sector. The key ingredient in any union campaign to shift actions and decisions is the level and commitment of ordinary members to be active and work together to achieve their goals; members are welcome to come along on 5 September and have input into the draft plan. The ASU Branch Council (made up of Workplace Representatives from all industries in our Union) will consider the plan at its meeting in September. Getting the message about the need for improved funding for wages and conditions for Community Services workers across to decision makers Action to bring the focus onto the State Government and its Ministers is planned for the ALP State Convention being held from 7 to 9 October 2005. ASU activists are developing a motion to be moved at the Convention. You can assist in bringing the spotlight onto the poor wages paid in the community services sector by volunteering to come and hand out information to ALP State Convention Delegates urging them to support the ASU motion. This action will most likely be on the morning of Saturday 8 October. If you are prepared to help please contact Ros Gumbys at the ASU Office on 8363 1322.
