Members infoEqual Opportunity, Sexual Harassment and Discrimination - 10 February 2005All Australian states and territories have equal opportunity, anti discrimination and sexual harassment legislation which cover behaviour at work and in other areas of public life. There are both Federal and state or territory laws which apply to all Australians. For more information check out these websites:SA Equal Opportunity Commission or NT Anti-Discrimination Commission... Australian Workplace Agreements - 03 May 2006 You might have heard the Federal Liberal Government and even your employer carrying on about the benefits of individual contracts or "AWAs". You might have heard AWAs promoted as a new, modern, exciting way of working. You might have heard that AWAs will let employees "break free" from awards. Don't be fooled. AWAs are about one thing: tipping the balance of power more firmly towards your employer and away from you. ... Awards and Agreements - 10 February 2005 Awards Most workers' wages and working conditions are determined by industrial Awards. These are legally binding documents which usually apply across an industry or a range of employers and which provide workers with 'bottom line' protection. Your wages and working conditions are not simply provided for you by your employer or the Government. Unions fought hard for awards. We continue to fight to ensure that Award wages are improved, that Awards are kept up to date and that your hard-won conditions are not reduced by hositle Governments.... Workers Compensation - 10 February 2005 If you have an accident or are injured at work or by work you may be entitled to claim Workers' Compensation. You may be able to claim for medical expenses and ongoing treatment. If you have to take time off work because of your injury or accident, you will be entitled to be paid for the time off until you are fit to return to work. You should check the SA Workcover website or NT Government Workers Compensation information website... Change of Membership Details - 10 February 2005 The Union office relies on you keeping us up to date with your personal contact details.... Suspending your Membership - 16 June 2009 Did you know that if you are not earning an income you can suspend your ASU membership? This means you will still receive all the benefits of ASU membership without having to pay fees.... Financial Statements - 10 February 2005 The Workplace Relations Act requires that the financial affairs of unions are checked and audited every 12 months to make sure union funds are administered properly and to detect any shortcomings. The National Executive and the Branches of the ASU each conduct their own audit. ... Resignation from the ASU - 10 February 2005 A member may resign membership of the Union by written notice addressed to the Branch Secretary.... |
